Sell Your Excess Energy

Net Metering – Spin your Meter Backwards

Installing a Helios Solar turnkey solar system is good for the environment and can cut your electric bill to $0! At the same time, net metering can offer you immediate returns on your solar energy investment. Many home solar energy producers are selling electricity back to their electric company right now in a process called net metering. Not only are they helping to save the planet, they are also making 20% returns.

Net metering is an electricity policy that measures the amount of power you generate against the amount of power you use. If they are equal, your cost is $0. When you produce more than you use, the excess electricity can be sold back to the electric company for a profit.

Here’s how net metering works. During the daytime, a solar electric system converts free, abundant sunlight into electricity to power your home or business. It’s your own private power plant that also happens to be silent, environmentally friendly, and extremely durable. If you need more electricity than you are producing, the utility grid automatically supplies the difference.

But if you generate more than you use, the excess electricity flows to the grid, spinning your meter backwards. This electricity is banked for future use – i.e. when the sun isn’t shining – to offset the conventional electricity you would otherwise pay for. At the end of the billing cycle, if you have produced more electricity than you have used, you can sell it to the utility company.
